Selection Regional Species of Greatest Conservation Need in the Southeastern US
After developing a method to select RSGCN in consultation with State Wildlife Diversity Program Managers, we helped the Southeast Region develop a similar list. The high regional biodiversity in the southeast required a narrower taxonomic focus. (Did you know the southeast has some 350 native crayfish and is a global hotspot for crayfish biodiversity?) But the overall method for selecting species was functionally similar to the Northeast Region's approach despite the narrower focus. Here is the RSGCN list for the Southeastern US.
